Hi Zaf, A poster on a french forum who is a devoted zenith fan claims than in the 1960's, zenith supplied a large number of movements to Jaeger Lecoultre, who only "stamped" them to the JLC brand (movements were allegedly used in some woman models). The movements he claims has been used by JLC would be zenith cal 1110. To me, it seems that this zenith movement is highly similar to JLC cal 840 family, therefore I wonder what really happened between the 2 (if anything ever happened). Do you have any info on this zenith thing? here is a pic from the cal 1110 Clavi (BTW, how's the book going?)

Interesting post. I have not heard this before. I guess it is possible, JLC has used some outside movements, the most nasty one is the Schild movements in their "Club" series. |

I'm looking at photos of the 840 and it is fairly different from the Zenith 1110. Dimensions are 15.4x13mm and height of 3.5mm. The balance bridge is flipped on the 840 vs the 1110, so it though both are oval in shape, they seem pretty different to me. |

Well, the zenith fan on the french forum didn't claim there was any link between zenith cal 1110 and JLC 840, I just thought they had similarities (and I agree with your coments as well on the different size and geometry). Still, I don't know if we should believe what he says about zenith providing 1110 to JLC for women watches. I am not too much knowledgeable on JLC women line, however, I inevitably come across many of them on the bay, and have never seen this 1110 movement (with its typical separate center jewel bridge). So, the doubt is still out there. I am still waiting for a picture which could prove his sayings.... |

I'm sure that if you took any 17 jewel oval movement from any brand, they'd look pretty similar. I'd be sort of surprised if Zenith supplied movements to JLC and then did not use them themselves. It's not like JLC was selling a ton of ladies watches, the economy of scale doesn't make that much sense unless Zenith used them too. If they did use them we should be able to match it up with a JLC caliber. |
