I bought this when I was 21 (1967) from Exchange and Mart. Any information would be appreciated. It works well, and it could do with a freshen up now! From research so far I guess it is a re-built watch from 1956. Hello Paul, Thanks for your post and good to know that you bought one of these in 1967. I've always wondered if these were real, and recently I became more and more convinced that they are, but your post seals the deal. These are RE-CASES of WWII era Jaeger-LeCoultre 6B/159s in a British made case with 1956 Air ministry markings. The 1956 case was used to re-case Omega, Longines and JLC. While it fits the larger Omega & Longines movements well, the JLC takes a weird movement ring and crystal tensioner. It's an awkward fit, hence my doubts. |

Thank you Zaf - now I've done some more searching, I 've found the thread from a year ago: http://www.classicwatch.com/discus/messages/622/27439.html?1226630095 From: http://6b159draft.blogspot.com/2006/03/jlc-6b-159.html It's not clear if the face on mine is original or MOD? Now I look at the pictures on that site the original chromed(?) case looks much more elegant shape. |

Hi, Paul, the dial on your JLC A.M./56 is definetely a MoD dial (the same as used in the war era original cases JLC 6B/159). Original case was brass chromed and smaller than the 56 case. Claudio |

Thanks for that Claudio. Having seen some really great pictures, I've decided to have it refurbished. The case is pretty battered about and it could do with polishing, and of course a new crystal would set it off rather well. I've also got an old Omega Chronostop that also needs some TLC. Can anyone recommend where in the UK to go? |
