A friend of mine gave me a watch, knowing that I am a fan of super-compressors. I looked at it and was surprised to see it was a le coultre. It works like a supercompressor, but it has a snap back case which is not useful for diving. The crowns are also regular le coultre signed crowns, and not the big hatched crowns of a super-compressor. My question is: what is this watch? When was it made? I've never seen one so I thought I'd put some pics up here and see what you guys think. |

The movement is real, but the rest, looks made up to me. What exactly is stamped inside the innser case back? Any case references or serial numbers? |

the serial number on the back of the case is 4900528. inside the case is says "jaeger Le Coultre" and "swiss" underneath that. The case is about the same size as all of my other early super-compressors (about 1 15/32" across and 1 24/32" lug to lug. there is a very tiny serial number on the movement and it reads "2085932" I also removed the signed crown and winding stem which, strangely enough, does have a rubber gasket on it, as did the back at one time, so there was an attempt to make this "water resistant" at least. |

Definitively fake. A real K880 movement put inside a Supercompressor case to make it look like a DeepSea Master Mariner. So, pure frankenwatch |

This was kinda my point: if somebody were going to franken-up this watch, you can buy a supercompressor case for peanuts - with the proper rotating bezel AND all of the super-compressor markings - and this movement would drop right in (plus, on a redone dial, you'd add the "Master Mariner" . If you use a stainless case from a memovox, you get the lecoultre markings and ser.# but NOT the rotating ring. You can't add the ring easily. And its all kind of old. You are probably right, but its like taking the parts from a ford grenada to make up a lincoln verseilles: its just not worth the effort when you can do it better for less. |

A cheap compressor case would not have the LeCoultre serial number, reference number and stampings. |
