Hi again, I have news to report on my ebay find -- after two days of erratic performance, my vintage ladies LeCoultre is now keeping perfect time (for 12+ hours). Maybe it was jostled in shipping and needed some time (ha-ha) to recover --who knows? Now I am absolutely hooked on vintage watches. At the risk of sounding like a complete geek, when I looked at my LeCoultre sitting next to my quartz-run Raymond Weil and saw that they displayed the exact same time, I got a real kick out of it! To think that this 50-plus-years-old mechanical mechanism can keep up with a modern timepiece is a testament to the craftsmanship of the watchmaker. I am still waiting for the seller to e-mail me about when this watch was last cleaned and oiled. From reading this forum and other vintage watch sites, it seems prudent to have this watch serviced before I wind it too many times, is that correct? |

It sort of depends, I'd say if you plan on wearing it more than a few days a month, then yes. If it's for very casual wear and it's already running OK, leave it. |
