Hi,
I bought this watch on ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120468999586&ssPageName=STRK: MEWAX:IT

I received it yesterday. It's gorgeous -- much better in person than the pictures.

However, I wound it, and it runs and then stops after 20 - 30 minutes. I'll reset it to the correct time, and it will run again and stop, sometimes after only a minute or two. I opened the case (simple pop-off back) and the movement looks great (no lint, gunk, etc.) And the watch itself has very little wear to it, considering its age.

I would like to keep it, but need some input from the experts on what the problem could be; I paid a fair price for this watch -- it wasn't a bargain, though -- and it was sold as running, keeping time." I guess I expect, "running, keeping time" to mean more than 30 minutes!

Advice, please? Thanks!

Sounds like it needs service or the hands are striking each other. In the case of the latter it will stop at similar times.

It's a minefield out there.

Thanks, Zaf -- you're not kidding about it being a minefield.

I wondered about the hands striking each other, but it does not stop at certain times, and I actually watched the hands "cross over" each other successfully at one point.

I've also wondered if it's not seated properly in the case and the crown gets "dislodged" causing it to stop. I also emailed the seller to see if he knows the last time it had a COA

I do realize that there is some upkeep with this expensive hobby of watch collecting I am embarking on. So it may be paying you a vist! :-)
