Hi, I've been searching for a 18K gold JLC buckle for my vintage watch. Now I'v come across this one. Does it look genuine, or is it counterfeit? Cheers

It *looks* genuine, but I know a Dutch goldsmith who produced some 14 and 16mm size buckles as 18k gold cast reproductions some years ago. To be honest, I never saw this style of buckle as an original in solid gold, just stainless steel and gold plated are known to me. |

The buckle shown appears to be a reproduction. The gold stamps on the back are not correct and the side shape is not quite right when compared to other known-original 18K buckles in my collection. There were a large number of these reproduction/counterfeit buckles being sold on eBay by a Canadian seller under about 4 different IDs. |

The problem would seem to be there are fewer vintage buckles than there are vintage watches. Maybe getting a copy buckle should not be ruled out - as long as one's aware it's not authentic. |
