Good Afternoon Zaf!
My name is Brent. I also live & work in the Washington D.C. area. I've purchase many time-pieces (mainly Accutrons) from your "FinerTimes" website and have been very pleased with both the quality and service.

I'm now interested in purchasing LeCoultre "Futurematics". I see you have some knowledge of these models. I would like to chat with you about what to like for. ie: model variations, dial types (silver/black), caliber movements, case styles, construction metals, porthole versions vs. two large sub-dials, etc. I've been surfing the web and come across various flavors 14KT gold, G.F., & S/S. Can you help shed some light?

I would greatly appreciate your feedback on this topic. Thanks!

Wow, that's a pretty generalized topic. There are many many variations.

Movement: caliber 497 & 817 (porthole)

Cases: Gold filled, Steel, 9k, 14k and 18k

Colors: Yellow, Steel & Pink (only in 18k gold)

Case styles: At least 12 maybe 15 distinct case styles.

Dial styles: Also many variations, maybe 15 or so, colors are silver, champagne, black, satin white, etc. Most of them are two tone.

Anecdotally, the rarest is 9k, then steel, 18k followed by 14k and lastly gold filled.

The porthole model is rarer than the regular model.

Hope this helps,

Zaf

Thanks Zaf! Do you know of a source or could you give some current market prices for various combinations (example: 14KT & S/S Porthole version) It's seems that the watch price guides are way off base. Thanks!

14k yellow range is $1200 to $1600 condition dependent (Excellent to Nearmint+/Mint-)

SS Porthole would be a Euro watch, fairly rare, say $1500 to $2200 (I'm giving a wide range on this one as they don't come up often). I recently bought a near New Old Stock steel one for myself, not the porthole for $1,800 if that gives you an idea. I tend to pay a little more for things when it is for personal consumption.

The watch guide, on many many items has not changed in 10 years. It is amazing they get away with it.

Hello Zaf,
Just found your site and like it a lot. I'm a novice collector with limited resources. I have a Seiko, Day date, "Seikomatic-P" 33 jewels,Japan5106 8030R on the front, Back marking is "SGP-Stainless steel 5106 8020 waterproof, 872418 Japan-A. It has a "rice type" Seiko bracelet band and keeps excellent time. I wonder if 33 jewels makes it special in any way? Approx value? It is well worn, perfectly functional but well used, plating worn off on lug backs.

I also have a 14K Accutorn M6, B55495, date only, sweep seconds, runs well.

Is the Accutron a better keeper for long term appreciation, or as I am beginning to look at wittnauer Automatics, would a nice gold wittnauer be a better long term watch. I appreciate fine machinery, and the Accutron just seems kinda gimmicky to me. I lean toward a vintage automatic.

I have no idea about the Seiko.

I think the Accutron is a better long term watch. Wittnauer doens't really generate too much collector interest outside of a couple of complicated pieces.
