What can you tell me about this watch? Date? Value? It was given to my grandfather early 1960's as a gift. It is missing one of the crowns. My grandfather would like to sell. It says Le Coultre on the face so I'm thinking before the Jaeger merger in 1938? Or is it a remake? Thanks. |

It is a U.S.-market watch, hence the "LeCoultre" name instead of Jaeger-LeCoultre. Longines-Wittnauer was the North American distributor for Jaeger-LeCoultre watches during that period and the watches were cased & timed in the U.S. and marketed under the LeCoultre name instead of the JLC brand. Your Pocket Alarm dates to approximately the 1960s. I have an identical watch to yours (except mint, unused w/all boxes and papers) setting on my desk now as I type. The case is gilt (ultra-thin gold plate) over base metal with a caliber 814 alarm movement powering the watch. This is the same movement used in the Memovox wrist watches. Greg |

Thank you so much for your reply and helpful information. I greatly appreciate it. I am still curious as to the value. I saw one on the internet that was near mint with original box and papers that was about $1000usd. What do you think the value of mine might be? |

Internet asking prices are typically a poor indicator of value. "Asked" and "Received" are two very different things. Nevertheless, items in mint/unused condition with all original boxes, papers, tags, etc. command a high premium over their well-used counterparts. The Pocket Alarms are fairly soft in the market right now, sometimes fetching barely above what the raw alarm movements (as spare parts) command. I've seen several Memovox Pocket Alarms in similar condition to yours auction recently in the $250-$300 range. Retail prices would be higher, but would also require much more time to sell. Greg |
