i've bought this gold filled LeCoultre Futurematic with Caliber 497 and wondered about the dial with numbers and small hands in black. have you seen this before, is this original or could it be modified?
i'm happy for anything you would know about this :-)

The black and red does exist power reserve area (see phot of one I have for sale). However, I can't tell from your photo if the dial is original. Usually, what the rediallers do, is refinish everything expect the power reserve area as the writing is fairly complicated.

thanks for your answer! i'll try to come up with a better photo.

Is the dial with the '12' and '6' a usual one? i've only seen the one without numbers, which you attached to your post.

also, the black hands for power reserve and seconds seem to be somewhat unusual as any other futurematic i've seen seems to have golden hands for power reserve and seconds.

The black indicator hands would not be correct. Either it is a photo effect or the gold plate has worn off and they have oxidized.

The 12 - 6 is slightly less common than the rest, but they're still around in fairly large numbers.

Over 50,000 US Market Futurematics were produced.

Zaf,

I am new to this forum and am considering buying my first JLC, I think a Futurematic. May I ask a couple of questions?

1. I like the models with the 12 and 6 markers, in what size were they produced, I see them normally at 34mm?

2. I have a budget of around 500 GBP, what would you recommend. It is not for everyday use as I normally wear an Omega Seamaster.

If you have time, I would be most grateful to hear from you.

PS. I read somewhere that you were producing a book? can you let me know if you have and where to get it.

Many Thanks

Paul.

Hello Paul,

Zaf is the right person to talk with when it comes to Futurematics, at the moment he is on business travel and will be back by end of next week.

The book is not printed yet, but hopefully will be available before Christmas.

Paul,

The US market ones are about 34mm, 500 GBP should get a fairly clean gold filled one. I do still have the one pictured in the discussion, one a brown croc strap, that is quite nice, priced under your budget.

Zaf,

Thanks for that. I am currently bidding on the watch below. If you have a moment tell me what you think. I'm sure that it will sell for more. It was good to hear that your book should be out this year. I look forward to buying a copy.

Hello, I'd rather avoid commenting on live auctions when I have very similar or identical items for sale.

Best,
