I have a 18k gold chronometer. On the dial it is marked JAEGER and on the back 1232734 and just below 124101.
Inside on the machine is marked - JAEGER FAB.SUISSE.279448. This watch has a plastic glass with a winding knob and two push bottons on either side.It also has the stop watch function. Please help me to identify this watch and its history.

You mean "CHRONOGRAPH" i.e. a watch that has a stop watch. It sounds like you have a chronographe that was made simultaneously made with Universal Geneve...bascially the same watch.
