not the starwars trilogy, but a trilogy of "E series" Memovox. All fitted with the cal 916 from left to right: E872, E877 (AKA "snowdrop") and E871. (still missing an E873 to complete the set). Zaf (and others), I know that the snowdrop is a "speed beat" (28800 pulsations), and waterproof to 5atm (mostly because it is written on the case back), but what about the other 2 ? I know that "E" stands for "Etanche" (i.e. waterproof), but are they all to 5atm or only the snowdrop with its unique "one piece case" design? And are all the 916 speedbeats, or the earlier ones might have a lower frequency ?

Hi Ilja. Seems like there is still a long way to go. From the list, I am interested in the E873 (my understanding was that some of them still had the bumper 825 cal...) I am not too fond of the 876 Having a 875 could be nice too, but they are less funky and a bit too close to the classic 825s I already have. And of course, the mighty 870 is a must have, although I doubt I would wear it (kinda ugly, but in a nice way). So I think the only one I am really looking for is the 873.... BTW, do you know why E874 is missing ? is it something outside the memovox line ? I seem to remember that the Polaris also is a E8something, but I don't remember which.... Can we assume that the ref numbers you have mentioned did appear in chronological order, and if yes, would you have any production date and figures ? I hope your JLC collection is doing well Clavi (looking forward to ZAF future book !! ) |

The Polaris is E859. I don't have most of the production dates but I do have most of the numbers: E871 = 4940 E872 = 3543 E877 = 2153 Incidentally, I will be in Paris on Monday. Are you around? Zaf |

Unfortunately, (and fortunately at the same time !) I am leaving for holidays on monday morning, so I think we will miss each other (unless you can find a slot during the week-end, I will be around and in the centre of Paris). It is a pitty as I would have appreciated to meet you in person, as you are the leading expert on vintage JLCs, in addition to being a very pleasant person I've been told ;-) (Met Ilja one year ago). Thank you for the production figures BTW, I am really looking forward to seeing your book. (let me know if I can be of assistance in anyway - sorry I unfortunately don't have the quartermaster or the duoplan) |

I will definitely be there in October, and look forward to seeing you. I am also thinking of another french JLC collector I know, who, although very discreet, has a huge collection and moreover, in depth knowledge of historic JLCs. He once showed me a vintage reverso in absolutely mint condition (same as artcurial auction cover), which was fitted with an original Jaeger-signed double-deployant buckle. He told me that Jaeger did invent it and quickly sold the invention to Cartier (which sounds believable given the historic relationship between the 2 at the time). Anyway, he is very knowledgeable, especially in the less famous rectangular Jaeger lecoultre (etanche etc...) which we don't see often. Would be nice to have a meeting the 3 of us |
