I am new to watch collecting. Concentrated on Omegas, but came accross images and information on the JLC Futurematic and was overwhelmed. This is a true beauty! I am searching for one to buy, but prices vary from about 1'000 to 3'000 USD. what should I look for when examining the bargain? |

Great question, as Futurematics come in many different flavors. Given that several key parts are exceptionally difficult to replace, you need to proceed with caution. In addition, most people who service watches are not suitably trained on repairing/restoring Futurematics. My advice is to purchase Zaf Basha's forthcoming book on JLC. It should be available next month. Also, Zaf is a trusted expert resource to repair and restore Furturematics, not to mention many other watches. I should know -- he has done a superior job servicing a variety of my watches, including a Futurematic. Until his book comes out, here is an interesting web page on the Futurematic: http://www.fortunecity.com/marina/breakwater/13/future.html Bruce |

Two things about the Futurematic: 1. Buy one that is serviced. 2. Service them by people than have experience with them. Parts are difficult to source & people with no experience repairing them can easily break something or simply never get the watch set up properly. |
