I am new to the vintage watch market, and was looking for a nice dress watch. Based on looking at modern Jaeger LeCoultre watches, I decided to seek out a vintage one. I found this one and fell in love with it. However, I wanted to find out more information about it. The ad says that it is stainless steel, dating back to the 1940s, and that the "case reference" is L 197744. I was wondering what you could tell me about this watch, such as model name, etc. Thanks! http://www.auctionhawk.com/upload/hannamerica/3778616-1125_005.jpg |

This probably just a manual wind dress watch. Most of these watches had 17 jewel movements. Some had nice tear drop lugs. |

If you don't already know this you should be aware that the dial on this watch has been repainted and is not original. |

I had kind of discerned that, since the painted-on markings did not line up properly. I guess the logical followup is, if this was repainted, did they ever produce one that orignially looked like this? If so, is there a model name or face description that I should be looking for in particular? |
