Hello everyone. This wonderful old watch has come into my posession...the dial is worn but I can make out the words Duo Plan below the center of the hands. The movement is signed LeCoultre and I've been told it is based on an unusual clock movement...each section of the momentment stacked on top of the others...instead of clustered around a center. I have seen a similar model on a watch dealer...his dial is signed Jaeger LeCoultre...and I've seen an other variation just signed Jaeger. Any help is appreciated. Regards, John Ireland

Hi John, what you have there is a men-size Duoplan, probably retailed in the 30s. The inscription reads "Alf Lie" with an underline that could be "Oslo". Alf Lie is a Norwegian Jeweler. I have seen a few other LeCoultre watches labeled this way. The name Duoplan comes from the movement design like you already described. The most famous Duoplan movement is the cal. 101 which still is the smallest mechanical movement in the world. (Still in production!) Hope you dont mind asking, but if you ever decide to sell it, drop me a line. Congrats for this rare and highly collectable watch! Ilja |

Excellent watch. It looks like a mens size gold Duplan. What did you need to know about it? |

Hi there everyone, i recently bought the watch in the photo (Black faced JLC Etrier) for my girlfried and wondered whether anyone had any idea how to interpret the number imprinted on the back, it reads 1 198659, the first "1" appears to have been imprinted in a different way, ie the print is less clean. Any help on this would be thoroughly appreciated, thanks guy |

Hi Guy, The number on the caseback is the case serial. We are just able to date watches by movement serial. The Etrier watches were produced from the early 30s (Duoplan movements) up to the late 70s. Your watch surely was produced in the 60s or 70s. Women love these watches! Excellent taste Guy. Ilja |
