On the outside chance that any of you JLC collectors have a vintage Geophysic, and would consider trading for a vintage Geomatic, I will entertain the possibility. It took me a long time to find a Geomatic in really fine condition, as mine is (pictured), but I've owned it for a while, and thought that it would be interesting to own a similarly rare handwind from the same era. If you have an interest, and your Geophysica is in at least excellent condition, feel free to contact me. Regards, Tony C.

No, I'm not kidding, although the Geophysic would have to be in superb condition. Tony C. |

Therefore if furthermore the Geophysic has to be in superb condition, you must be definitively kidding :-) I think you don't really have the sense of realities regarding rarity / desirability of the Geophysic vs Geomatic |

Did I say that the trade had to be even? |

By the way, while I do appreciate your point concerning relative value in the market, my understanding of the production numbers suggests that the disparity in Geomatics and Geophysics produced in steel is not so great. Geophysic: 1038 Geomatic: 2000 Yes, there were fewer Geophysics produced, and yes they are therefore more rare. But by any reasonable reckoning, they are both very difficult to find, and sought after (especially in fine condition) by collectors. |

Fair points. However, I think one would struggle to find a Geophysic on the market right now, whereas the Geomatic is somewhat more commonly seen for sale (not very usual of course, but still findable). One was sold last week on the Bay for less than 1500 (which I reckon is far from usual value so that was a bargain). But regarding desirability, you cannot judge only by production figures. If you look at the movement, there is no comparison possible between the 'desirability' of the cal 488sbr which is only found in Geophysic, mk XI and V&C chrono royal, and the cal 881/883 of the Geomatic, which is really close to the very common 880 found in x thousands other JLCs |

Well, by that logic, you could argue that the 488SBr is very similar to the cal 450 or just about any of the 12 1/2 ligne movements. They share the majority of their components. But I do agree that the Geophysic is probably worth 2 x the value of the matic. |
