It's most likely fake given the source.

I'd need to see a shot of the back of the case to authenticate, but I have very low hopes of this watch being genuine.

Just for your information

It is a running ebay auction ending in 3h: 320176135768
Movement is K825 (#1629937) but signed:

Fab. Suisse
Swiss
Cartier Inc
Adjusted to
Three (3) Positions
Seventeen (17)
Jewels

Cotes de Geneve are missing on that part of the bridge
where the movement is signed.

the dial look refinished to me.

Cartier Inc? Weird. If anything it should be European Watch Company, and the lugs should be stamped with a 3 digit Cartier case number.

It's close enought to the 1970s, where I guess anything is possible, the fact that it says adjusted to 3 positions is a plus in my mind, but if in fact there is no Cotes de geneve stripe on the bridge where it is signed, it's definitely bogus. Just remember where it's coming from.

Herrk, when Zaf said be aware of the "source", he meant the seller. Go and read the thread "1950 Lecoultre Chronograph NOS" and see the comments about Webauktion24. I started as a total newbie with watches a few months ago, after receiving advices and knowledges from other members in here, when I saw that thread and went and checked out what Webauktion24 were selling, I really got a laugh. There were real items, but they came as often as the blue moon! So buyer be aware. Personally I won't touch any of his offerings.

Thanks Marty,

well, I did know what Zaf meant and was not
interested in this Memovox (just my luck).

IMO the interesting thing - apart from the
criminal implications - is whether this and
other sellers will finally have an impact on
the prices collectors are willing to pay by
quoting absurd buy-it-now prices.
I assume that this part of the plan could
work for them.

There is this movement ending today on eBay:

Cartier LeCoultre Memovox automatic bumper movement good for parts - 50's - cal. K 825 - VERY RARE!!

Item number: 160174837956

(Incomplete, but still fetching what seems like a high price given the uncertainties.)

BTW, I have seen at least one cal 825 Gübelin previously offered on eBay, probably earlier this year.

One wonders what other ones are out there.

Of course, the IWC ref 3537 GST Alarm used a modified cal 916.

Trying to like it, but the stark face evokes a Swiss railway clock.

I wonder if the 916s were otherwise rebadged.

916 appeared in the Favre Leuba Memoraider (under ref 917 as it has an alarm hand instead of a central alarm disc).

I have also seen at least one Girard Perregaux with a 916 a few years ago.

This is not entirely surprising as these two brands were very close to JLC at the time (same ownership if I remember well, group SAPHIR ?)

The Gübelin and Cartier were only cal 825 I believe, and were the typical 'retailer' versions of JLC E855, so not different except the dial and the bridge writings.

Hi Robert,

the movement you are referring to (K825 #1531283) does have a rotor bridge
with complete Cotes de Geneve decoration. That looks more genuine to me.
