Hi there,
I'd be very pleased if anyone can tell me anything about this watch. I've been told that it might have been a military watch, but it doesn't have a broad arrow on the back of the press-on case, or anything else to show that this could be so. The case has a chromed finish, not stainless steel. I've been told that it has a 470 calibre number; 252349 is the movement number and all that is on the back of the case is the number 180283. The bars holding the strap on are not fixed to the watch. Were many of these produced ? Is it a miltary watch ? Does it have much of a value ? Is it of reasonable quality ? Although many of my friends call it a 'Grandad watch' I rather like it - I'd never sell it. I'd be very pleased to receive any information on this watch. Best Wishes, Andy (On the border of England & Wales) |

Hi I asked the pretty much same questions as you about 3 months ago. You could check out: http://www.classicwatch.com/discus/messages/622/15989.html?1182338359 for some answers. I paid 200 for my watch on ebay, and it looks like yours is in slightly better nick. I rather like mine too. Ralph. |

Hello , to me the point with Andy's watch (the brass chrome done) is that it was produced for the RAF. They used an already existant caliber but the shape construction is dedicated to that watch. If I look at it without the strap it sound very military, and I've never seen a civilian one. They really did as much possible to create confusion for future collectors : two watches (Ralph's and Andy's) were issued during the war. They are almost clones at the first look, but indeed different. And they had a LC dial, JLC movement and a case without brand name. Not enough, later the British Min. of Def. repainted some of (both) these watches : white with LC name white with JLC name black with JLC name. But the only original dial (I'm sure and it's confirmed by real experts) it was the one like yours, LC with the round circle. All the Best Claudio |

Here is a variation on this general (33mm) design. Its Cal 450 - #315xxx - dates to, perhaps, '44? The dial is really neat - the center 'darker' circle changes in different light, and at some angles 'vanishes' or appears 'lighter' than the perimeter. Perhaps some sort of light refraction layer in the finish? Sadly, I'm missing the snap back for this piece - any one have an extra? <g>
