Hi Zaf - Hi Ilja ,
I didn't thought to find a Chronometer Geomatic on Ebay. The auction just ended this afternoon with 1.675 (USD) winning bidder (I guess a jump of around 675 in the last hour).
I have the vague feeling that I have missed something (or not ?) (This is the only pic that was avaible on the auction).
Anyway many thanks
and...from now a truly happy Easter
Claudio

Ilja was looking at it earlier, but for me the dial looked pretty weak, so I had no interest myself unless it was like $1200.

Hi Stefan,

thanks for the info about NOS dials. I have a complete 881G movement, so perhaps they can make something out of it. :-)

It's a nice link !
I never saw the Geom. with the sword hands - the last below, "E 399" - like the modern Master G.T.
Thanks for sharing Stefan --
Claudio

Very cool. Ilja noticed that this contains a previously unknown reference number for the Geomatic. The E550! I'll ask JLC to see what they say about this and post back to the board.

Best,
Zaf

Another one on the bay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=3943&item=4108084423&rd=1 &ssPageName=WDVW

The crown is not original, the hands seem to be not original, and the band as described seems to be of non JLC origin as well. Pretty expensive so, but for the one who is eager to have one :-)

The watch was auctioned there a few weeks ago, now the buyer sells it again...

Guess Achim should have asked before buying it. ;)

That was a pretty bad deal for Achim if you ask me. He'll be lucky to get out of it...

Hello Zaf,

I'm hoping it is not against the netiquete of this forum to address you directly.

I learned from Stefan Moecking's attachment (PDF from 1963 Catalogue) that I am an owner of a Geomatic E550. Unfortunately the crown is missing so the watch requires some TLC from JLC. I'm hoping that this will also reveal the caliber- and serial number of the watch.

You mentioned in your posting from April 13, 2004 that you will enquire about the E550. Have you received any information about it in the meantime?

All the best,

Daniel Reich

Yes, I just asked the factory about the E550 and they only had a catalog shot of it. They say it's a standard gold Geomatic, that is fitted with a factory bracelet. Are you sure you have a E550, that it is, it has a JLC bracelet?

Well, it has the JLC sign on the latch, is 14K gold and fits exactly to the golden case of the watch both in form and colour. And it looks just the same as the bracelet of the E550 in Stefans PDF attachment (the same woven structure).

I will try to take some pictures of it (prior to its repair) and post them. It is definitely a golden Geomatic, with a golden bracelet like the one pictured as E550 in the 1663 Catalogue. The crown which broke of was also an original JLC crown. And the design of the dial is like the one on the picture of the E550 in the 1663 Catalogue. Since I don't have the watch with me right now, I can't verify if it is 14K or 18K gold, but it is one of the two, both watch and bracelet.

OK, a picture would be great. If you have a 14k Geomatic, that would be the first one we've seen!

So, here are the pictures (zipped). I hope 900 KB each is not too hefty.
Well it might not be an E550, but it looks close to the E550 in the catalogue. The main difference I can spot is that mine has no numbers on the dial. The bracelet is 750 gold and the case most likely too (there is one rather deep scratch which does not show any evidence of gold plating). As you can see the watch is not in prime condition and requires some polishing besides servicing, the replacement of the glass (plastic) and the missing crown. The dial seems to be in good condition, it has a beautiful soft silver reflection. Probably the E550 in the catalogue has a different colored dial. Since I don't dare opening the watch with insufficient tools; the last watchmaker proved to be a true professional and left some additional scratches on the back cover; I have no idea about caliber version and serial number. Do you have any idea which model I have here?

The EXXX is the case reference number, so multiple dials may have the same case reference. It looks to me like you have an E398 with factory bracelet, which JLC says, as far as they know is the E550.

Do you have any information how many E550 have been sold and what their current value is?

I don't have any infor on how many E550s where sold (JLC doesn't either as all they could find was the lone catalog entry). Value is $2000 and up depending on condition, how much restoration it needs, how original, etc.
