I bought a LeCoultre watch on EBAY before I knew this forum existed. In fact I bought the watch almost immediately after it was listed for sale. The seller had starting bid of $975 abd a buy now price on $1050. I had been looking for a 14 kt gold cased watch that was made in 1947 so I bought it with out hesitation. I then asked the seller how he derived the 1947 date for the watch and he sent me auction pages from 1992 which showed the same type watch with serial number 619820 was offered for sale at the Hilton in Dusseldorf, Germany by the auction house of Gisbert Joseph. The watch I bought has serial number 591879 on the 481 movement. The seller concluded that since the watch he was selling had a lower serial number then it must be from 1947.

Can anyone with factual data confirm manufacture date from 1947? Is what I paid the value of the watch in the condition it is in? The diameter is 33mms. It was recently serviced per the seller. It is very clean abd runs great. It has hallmarks on the inside and outside of the case as 14 kt. Here are photos of the watch and 1992 auction. Thanks for helping me on this.

I think a $1000 or so for a 14k example like this is reasonable assuming it needs no further work. I don't have my dating sheet in front of me, but it's probably closer to 1949.
