This watch:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150134591667&indexURL=0&photo DisplayType=2#ebayphotohosting

Is this a relatively rare model? Is that the reason for the auctioned price?

Actually this is a really nice looking watch, and I think not too common. Rather modern looking. The textured dial is very nice too.

Is there anything not right with this watch? Did 1950 JLC really use "LeC" crown?

Thanks.

No reason for the auction price to be that high.

Look at this picture from the auction:

The prinitng on the dial is just not quite right. There is no picture of the movement, which would concern me. Finally, I have questions on the caseback. I have never seen a JLC with that style of hallmark on the outside back of the case. Usually that style of hallmark is found on generic brand Swiss gold cases.

Assuming the other information in the listing is correct, this may be a recased JLC, although I'd like to know what the dial originally said before being so crudely redialled. The "LeC" crown is probably real, from a period LeCoultre, which should fit properly.

My guess is that this one could be either a correct JLC movement and dial, poorly refinished, or a LeCoultre movement redialled to read "JLC". Either way, I think it has been recased.

Any other opinions out there?

gatorcpa. One clarification and one question.

The seller did pictured the movement. You may need to scroll down further to see that.

About the crown. If I am really picky, I can say this is a wrong crown for an European JLC?

Yes.

A JLC would have the "JL" crown as seen on the crosshair model you asked about before.
