Hi there... I have just joined the JLC family... My first JLC... a beautiful Master Compressor Memovox on a strap... While I love it, I am somewhat concerned/confused about some of its features... First, when I tried the alarm, I realized it goes off five minutes early... When I inquired about that I was told that it was rather normal with mechanical/alarm pieces (5 to 10 minutes at times). Then, I noticed that after the alarm stops, it feels like it is not completely done. I mean, it stops but as move your wrist, there is more "left-over ring" you hear... As you make sudden moves (!) with your wrist, you hear a mechanical noise (as if like there is still some left in the alarm). When I inquired about that I was told that even that was normal. Then, it was suggested that I can actually turn the alarm off... Well, I thought if I don't stop the alarm when it goes off (I mean, wait till it stops), and if I don't wind again, it would be off then... Can you actually turn the alarm off? Could you please shed some light on some of these issues? Thank you very much...

I have not handled a Master Compressor, but the behavior you describe is also true of the vintage alarms. The 5 min early ring is OK as far as I am concerned, though on a modern watch, they probably could have done is a slightly better job adjusting it at the factory. The left over ring is also normal. It goes away after 5-10 mns as the minute & hour hands move off of the alarm pointer.

One way to get rid of the left over ring is to pull the crown out, thereby disabling the alarm, after it has gone off.

Best,
Zaf
