My watch that I added to the forum this morning (below), has "memodate" on the alarm dial in the center, but I have not seen another watch like it. I've only seen "memovox" on the dial. Can someone help me out with this? |

Wrist Alarm/Memovox/Memodate are all types of LeCoultre or Jaeger-LeCoultre alarms. |

With my watch having MEMODATE, what year would you place on this watch? |

I have a World Time Memodate which is dated around the late sixties. However, you should post a picture so one can see the style of the watch which will confirm the approximate age. |

Memodates used the cal 911 alarm movement. The Memodate name was used on dials in the mid-1960s. Greg |

Thanks Greg for the more detailed info. Interesting enough that Farfo happens to have WT Memodate and considers it a 1950s. I happen to agree with you that it's more of a 1960's thing. I saw Memodates on the bay and I would have thought that the name would need at a least a date window but this seller appears to be selling a Memodate without a date window and it's a manual wind 17 jewels movement, also considered a 1950s watch. ;) This is the second Memodate JLC watch from this seller using a Memodate in this fashion. The happens to be Richard E. Gilbert, the author of "The complete price guide to watches". I have asked the seller about his previous watch being a Memodate without a date window but never got a response. http://cgi.ebay.com/VINTAGE-LE-COULTRE-MEMODATE-WRISTWATCH-eAshland_W0QQitemZ120 133830808QQihZ002QQcategoryZ31387QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItem |

Memodates were ALWAYS cal 911 date movements. Since the cal 911 wasn't introduced until 1962, it cannot ever be a 1950s watch. The center alarm dial on the watch referred to in your link is not original to the watch. There are tons of NOS Memovox dials floating around the marketplace and the temptation is to replace worn/spotted dials with any dial that will fit, regardless of it's a match to the original. Don't make the mistake of believing that Gilbert doesn't ever sell frankenwatches. Greg |
