Im interested in old Atmos` clocks and wonder why the tips of the hands are getting black after some years. Can anyone tell me, why they get black, how it could be avoided, or how to clean?

There gold plated hands I presume. They probably got black because of oxidation of the metal beneath the gold plate.

All I can think of is taking them off and polishing them slightly and putting them back on. I wouldn't recommend doing this yourself unless you know what you are doing.
