Hi All,

I came across a watch selling for 2350 USD, looks to be in great condition. Posting describes as refurbished by JLC, would that mean the dial could have been replaced? Given its age and condition it almost seems too mint.

Furthermore, I was unaware JLC even had a branded "ultra thin" watch in 1961. Could someone shed some light on this model? movement? Is the seller at the right price point?

Thanks,
Rudy

After doing some digging, I now understand this to most likely be the CAL 838, My concern is more so about the dial and its near mint condition, the posting said refurbished by JLC in 2009, could this be a redial?

Yes it could. JLC routinely refinishes dials as part of their factory service. However, these are much better quality than the normal redialling company.

Then again, JLC charges a lot more than a regular watchmaker, so the quality should be better.

If the watch needs a new dial and JLC has a new dial in stock, they would use it before redialling the original.

Hope this helps,

From a value perspective, do you think it can be used as leverage to warrant a lower price? Because while aesthetics may have improved, from a collector's perspective all original and untouched is usually preferred wouldn't you say?

Can't the seller provide the service receipt if he is making that claim? That should indicate what was done to the dial.

He provided the papers but JLC couldn't look up what exactly was done.

I'm considering making an offer in the $1000 range.

I held off on the offer, because I decided it was probably a tad too small to wear on my wrist. I'm now focusing on going after a larger Memovox closer to the 37mm range
