I took my futurematic to the my trusted watchmaker today for a cleaning service. I also brought with me the manual "How to repair the LeCoultre Futurematic". The manual does not inform how to open the back of the watch. What is the right way to remove the crown on the back, does it pop off or unscrew?

It can be either, does the back have a ring that screws it in? If so screw back, otherwise snap back.

If you look at the previous post that is what the screw back looks like.

Don't let a watchmaker who even does not know how to open a FM case play with your watch!
The crown (which does NOT wind at all) is attached to the case back from inside.
It is either snap back or screwed with a ring, depending on model.

The biggest problem with these watches, more than the back, in the hands of a watchmaker that is unfamiliar with them, is the release of the mainspring. Done carelessly, it can destroy the watch. So seconding Ilja, you probably don't want to have it serviced by someone that has never done one.
