Hi there, One other question I have, as vintage watches is a new area for me. Does it make a difference to the value of the watch if (a) the dial has been restored to how it should look and (b) if the crystal or glass has been replaced. I've spotted a 1950s Powermatic that i really like the look of, however, they say the dial has been fully restored, and expertly done. It does look very well done on the dial. Is it worth buying, or will the value decrease excessively, because of the retoration to the dial? Obviously it is priced cheaper than others I've seen. Maybe this is the reason why? Thanks to anyone able to answer this. Yes, I agree. This site is fantastic, especially for someone like myself who knows so little about vintage watches, esp. Jaeger LeCoultre ones! Chris |

Most serious watch collectors won't even consider a restored dial on expensive watches. However, on a gold filled American market powerwind, since there isn't much down side, it won't matter too much. But, you are still better waiting for one with an original dial as that watch is common. If it were a $20k watch, with a restored dial it's worth probably 30% less than one with a nice original dial, with an entire category of people that won't be interested in it when the time comes to sell it. |
