Hi there, I'm new to the site, but am looking to purchase either a 1950s/1960s Powermatic or Memovox watch. I've been looking on the Chrono 24 site, and found a couple of Memovox ones that were very expensive compared to one I saw sold at an apparent reputable auction house recently. The price difference was like four times the price on the Chrono site. ie. Auction house Memovox price: 1,250, and the same watch Memovox Worldliner (I think) for around 4,000 up to 6,000 on Chrono site. Why would that be? Is the auction house watch maybe not original? Also, I've been offered a Jaeger Le Coultre Wrist Alarm watch. (See below) Are the Memovox ones more valuable, to a wrist alarm one, or what is the difference? Sorry for so many questions, but the wrist alarm watch is being held for me at present? It looks really nice, and seems a reasonable price. Around the 1,350 mark - or is that too much. Picture attached. Thanks so much, in advance. It's a minefield. Cheers, Chris |

Chrono 24 typically has very very high prices, some bordering on the ridiculous AND it is a mine field. The example you are showing has a refinished dial: "WRIST ALARM" is the term given to some early USA market alarms with LeCoultre Dials. European market watches with Jaeger-LeCoultre dials were called Memovox. So something isn't right with the watch you are showing me. I'd walk away for now and get some knowledge before you jump in. The best $99 you can spend is buying a copy of my book that covers these models in detail: http://www.classicwatch.com/vintage-watches/ |

Thanks again Zaf. I will purchase your book. Will continue talking to you off line about that Memovox watch. Chris |
