My first post. I just finished what I understand to be a desirable and uncommon men's Jaeger LeCoultre watch. Solid 14k white gold, diamond dial version, screw back/waterproof case with a K812 bumper automatic movement. All original and very clean. Questions: 1) Is the K812 the 2nd generation bumper movement and is it superior to the P812? 2) I have not decided if I am keeping this one for myself or selling it. Any idea on true market value? I cannot find a men's automatic version for sale anywhere. 3) Movement serial number is 1325533 and case serial number is 27634. For those with a date chart, what is the manufacture year of this watch? Best regards, Troy Duncan

1. The only difference between a P812 and a K812 is the type of shock protection, one is Parachoc, one is Kif. 2. The automatics used go for LESS than the manual Vacheron & Constantin marked backs. 3. Around 1959. |

Thank you. I thought the P812's rotor was prone to breaking whereas the K812 was a studier design. Regarding value, I always find it interesting to learn other's opinions and thnk you for yours. Two other experts placed the value of the automatic model above the manual wind Vacheron and so does the 2012 watch price guide written by Gilbert, Engle & Shugart. Thank you again for your help. |

The 2012 price guide is worthless for pricing watches. Other than some reference material which is useful, no one seriously uses it for that purpose. A lot of the pricing information in there is completely obsolete. The "K" and "P" refers to the type of shock protection, the rotor design and its notorious fragility are the same for either designation. |
