A long time ago my wife gave me her grandfather's LeCoultre watch. Can anybody tell me, from the pictures, when it might have been made? We are considering having the watch restored. I will ware it from time to time. Is this watch worth the price of a restoration? Any information you can give me about this watch would be much appreciated! Bill

It's a gold filled, small sized USA market leCoultre, production around 1946. What do you mean by restored? In general it is not a good idea to mess with the dial. |

I guess "restored" was the wrong word. I have left it with a watchmaker that has done work on some of my other watches. He went over it, and believes the dial can be cleaned-up very nicely. He's going to polish the case, clean the movement and dial. The crown and stem are not original, and are a little rusty. He is going to replace them. He will try to buff out the crystal, or replace, it is plastic. I'm looking at some new bands, maybe black crocodile. It will be nice watch to ware! |
