Could someone shed some light on the authenticity of this watch? Sorry, photo's aren't great quality but vendor doesn't have anything better at the moment...

I do believe Jaeger made some (european) versions of the Master Mariner with Jaeger Lecoultre as brand-name instead of just "Lecoultre". Probably not enough information for a real authentication but an informed guess would be greatly appreciated

Any suggestion would be more than welcome. Thanks!

Anything is possible, but to me it looks strange to have that dial on a gold plated / steel case. What is the case top made of? I'd need to a shot of the movement and inside the case back for a better opinion.

Hello Zaf, Thanks for the fast response. My guess is that the case would be gold plated steel as you said... I called the vendor and he couldn't get the case openened because he didn't have the tools (private vendor) and the case was compression-closed he said..

Its on sale for a relatively small price (around 200 Euro) because vendor doesn't like all the cosmetic damage (patina etc), but that's something i like a lot... Would you feel the risk would be worth it for such a price?

I think you'd need to spend a small fortune to get the watch looking good and it will never look as good as an un-restored example. So maybe 200E if you're using it for parts, but as a restoration project, personally, I'd pass.

Thanks, I personally like the really trashy look so I wouldn't restore it at all... Just would like to have some opinions as to authenticity... So i take it your guess would seem to be that it might be genuine?

No way to tell for sure w/o seeing the insides, movement and case.
