We have been doing some spring cleaning and found some old watches. We have a graduation gift from 1974. It's a lady's Tudor by Rolex. Still runs like a charm.

We also have a watch that was found by my husband on a job site a few years back. It is a Montrose Datofix 17 jewels. It has a dial that tracks phases of the moon. It also has a second hand. We took it to a jeweller a year ago and had it cleaned. They were very impressed. With just a minor cleaning it runs like a charm. Any idea what the value is?

I don't have a good handle on the ladies tudor but would guess $200 if it is steel.

The Montrose Datofix is somewhat of a generic brand but triple date moonphases are desirable. Assuming it is gold filled/steel or a combination of the two, value is $250-$350 depending on how nice & original it is. Add $300 if is 14k gold and about $400 if 18k

I have a Jaeger-LeCoultre bracelet watch that was bought in 1946 in Budapest. It is a heavy gold bracelet with diagonal links all around. The tiny watch is hidden until one of the links is opened. I was told that this is a limited edition watch.
I would appreciate any information that you might have regarding such an item.
Thank you,

I have aquired a Hamilton wrist watch and am trying to date and get an approximate value.
On the inside of the back cover it is engraved Hamiton W Co. 14K gold filled 277109. On the (clockworks?) is says Hmilton USA 17 Jewels 980 G159477. It is 3/4" wide and from pin to pin it is 1 1/4" long. The crystal is clear. The no.s are gold toned, as are the hands and the second counter. The square second counter is above the no 6, the color of the face is champagne. It seems to be in working order.

re: The Jaeger-LeCoultre bracelet watch, these are relatively rare and can fetch good money in the right environment. Depending on how heavy and wide it is, it is worth anywhere from $600 to $2,000. $2,000 being for a very wide bracelet with lots of gold and possibly diamonds. One such watch sold at auction for $2,200 in 10/1999.

J-
On the Hamilton. I can id it easily if you can provide an image of some kind. Otherwise, it fits the desciption of 40-50 Hamilton models produced from 1935 through the early 1950's.

Thank you,

Sounds like one of the many "generic" Swiss makes. Unfortunately, unless it has a wild design, its value will be limited to value of the case + a few dollars.

I recently found a two-register, "Timecraft" signed, chronograph,17 jewel, Swiss Made, worn nickel plated case, stainless unsigned round, snap back case . It looks like it is from 40's same look to face, case, bottons as a [Baume & Mercier # (Ref mpta333)} with identical "applied yellow numeral and marker dial (original). Two registers: constant seconds and a 30 minute recorder. Chronograph sweep seconds. Dial calibrated for tachymetre."

I found this in a junk store in Cuenca, Ecuador.
It runs, loses a little time.

Is this a valuable/rare enough watch to justify having the body replated, new crystal, and perhaps having he dial(gold anodized ?)cleaned.

I've never found any references to this wath maker

It would probably be worth around $200 if running correctly and in decent shape.

I'm trying to find some history on a vintage watch that I bought at an auction some time last month. The face says 17 jewel "CLINTON" SWISS. The case is gold? / gold tone and the 12 / 3 & 9 have a diamond? / simulated diamond instead of the number. How old? Value? It is running and appears to be a very nice watch. Can you help?

I have an Arnex pocket watch, appears to be gold with a dog and a bird on the case. The face of the watch is in Roman numerals. Says 17 jewels and incabloc. There are three red flowers curved around the center. I dont have any idea of the value, but to look at it seems in A-1 shape, but it doesnt wind up, would it be worth the money spent to have it fixed?

I have a mens 18k rose gold watch that belonged to my grandfather. The maker is PHIGIET. Second hand dial on the left side of the face as well as another dial on the right side of the face. 2 sets of numbers in black surround the dial. Numbers are gold and outlined in black.I can not pull up even one reference to this watchmaker on the internet. Any idea re: the value, country of origin, estimated date of manufacture? Any info would be appreciated.

It sounds like one of the miscellaneous Swiss brands, from your description, an 18K chronograph of some kind. If it's the thin gold variety, value is 400 to 600 at the most.

Trying to learn more about an 18 ct. yellow gold Omega automatic Cal. 715 Moon Phase Watch that I purchased around 1990 from an authorized Omega Jeweler. The accompanying Omega instructions state the following: "Manufactured in small series by master craftsmen of exceptional know-how, this 18 ct. solid gold Omega watch is designed to provide years of .... Classically elegant case, water-resistant to 30 meters; high quality automatic movement visible from the back through a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal; dial crystal also in sapphire. Hand-crafted finish. Like all Omega wathces, the 'Moon Phase' model benefits from an international guarantee..."
The movement is 24j and much of the movement appears to be solid gold. There is a faintly visualized hand engraving that appears to be a number on one of the strap 'struts'. The Moon Phase is at 6 O'clock, the month and day in small boxed cutaways at 11 and 1, and the date is marked by a hand that has a semilunar end. I've only seen one other and it was in Italy. I'd like to consider buying another matching watch. I'll try to post pictures as I can. Thanks.

Zaf, Re. my platinum and diamond baguette, lady's watch whose face says Cyma and movement says Concord...the case is marked only on the inside and then all it says is 10% Irid. Platinum...pretty generic...do you think the whole thing was pieced together at some point? Thanks!

Dear Sir, I have a legacy men's watch i got from my dad. The face, at the top says "STUART", "17 Jewels", "ORION", and at the bottom it says "INCABLOC", "AUTOMATIC", and "NINAFLEX MAINSPRING". At the very bottom, very small letters "SWISS". On bottom edge of watch, it says " 10K R.G.P", and on top edge it says "62". I can locate no information on this brand on the Web, though I did locate one picture of a Stuart Watch watchbox. The watch still runs fine and still keeps good time. Wondering what its worth..

Any advice on Sandoz watches? I'm in the market for my first Swiss mech watch and would like to buy something that would last as well as be an investment. The two brands that catch my eye are Sandoz (which seems to me a little suspect) and Oris. I am open to considering other brands but want to stay below the $1k mark. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you!

I think Sandoz is problematic in that it may no longer be a Swiss Company...double check me on that one. It may be based in Hong Kong. Between the 2, I think your better bet is Oris, but for investment purposes, it will be years and years before you see a return on just about any new watch.

My husband found a wind-up pocket watch last month and we have been trying to find out if it's worth anything.

As the picture shows, inside it has a cow/farmer design around the edge and interior with large Roman numerals and says Bucherer under the XII and Incabloc above the seconds dial where the XI would be.

The back has an engraving of a farming scene with a group of cows being led away from a building by a farmer. There is a large tree prominent in the background, and a city on a hillside to the left as well. It is a white metal. I have not been able to find ANYTHING on this watch yet, so any info would be appreciated. Thank you!

Bucherer is a Swiss jeweller in Geneva and probably has retial outlets elsewhere as well. This out be one of their private label watches. The fact that it is marked "Incabloc" a type of shock protection that was invented in the 1930 and became common from the 1940s onward, tells me it's a fairly modern watch. As such, as a pocket watch, I don't think it is going to have huge value.

I have a DeFrece pocketwatch (17 jewel, swiss made) that I think is quite unique. One side of the watch has a black/red 'roulette wheel' and the other side has a red/green 'greyhound dog track'. When you hold the watch in the center you can spin this outside wheel or roulette wheel if you will... The watch currently isn't working and I have never taken it to a jeweler. I've had it for 25 years now. Anyone have any idea what it might be worth?
