Hello, any opinions would be appreciated!

I bought this watch for $35 and am told it will cost $95 to fix it. I don't want to spend more money fixing it than the watch is actually worth. What do you think, is it worth it? Description:

Gruen solid 14K vintage wind-up. On the face it says, Guildbrght by Gruen, 17 jewels, Swiss. It says Gruen 14K gold on the back, and the expansion bracelet part is marked 1/20 GF shells all other parts 100% stainless steel. (I assume it is the original band since it matches the
lugs.) The numbers look like they're gold and the face is a kind of textured white. There is a photo of it here:

Thanks for any feedback!

The watch is worth about $80-100 if running and nice. So unless you like it, probably not worth the repair headache.

The watch fixer (is there an official name for this?) said today that, after looking inside it, the repairs would be $65. I like the watch, and that about falls in with your estimate, so I'm going to go ahead and get it fixed. Thanks very much for the response!

I am considering having my mothers Gruen repaired, mainly for sentimental reasons as she died when I was a child.
I think the watch is circa mid 40's. It says Gruen precision on the face and Gruen Guildite on the back. It has a cord strap and a very pretty copper coloured face.
My question is this - the crystal is very badly scratched. The jeweller told me that if I want it replaced, the new crystal will be plastic as glass ones are no longer available. I'd like to keep the watch as original as possible, so....does it matter if the new crystal is plastic? Is it true that glass crystals are no longer available? Will it's value (such as it is) be decreased by replacing the original glass crystal with a plastic one?
Thanks for your help.

Hi. The original factory glass crystal is probably not available. However, something close that can be "cut" to fit your watch case can be done by a watchmaker that is so inclined.

I also think a plastic replacement, in this case is fine, value will not be impacted much.

What is a Chesterfield Souvenir watch? Related to the cigarettes?

What metal is the Gruen made of?
