I have a silver Patria watch with wire lugs, white porclain face and a small minute hand and dial at the bottom. It was presented to my great great uncle and is engraved Bet 1888, I do not know if this is his birth date or the date it was presented. The only other markings are on the bottom of the dial "swiss"
Any help would be appreciated

Seems to me it's more of a WWI era "trench" style watch. So 1888 is likely his birth date, not the watch manufacture date. Wrist watches of the 1880s would have been converted pocket watches, if they existed at all. Patria is a Swiss brand that no longer exists as far as I know.
