Would anyone know how to date a Leonidas chrono? (serial number on case back is 244888). Also, did Leonidas make high quality watches? Are they still in business? (this chrono has the Venus 188 movement). Any info would be appreciated. Thanks, Danny

I think dating a Leonidas will be close to impossible. I've never seen any production tables. Now to answer your other questions:

Leonidas had a solid repution as a chronograph & sports watch maker. It was bought by then Heuer sometime in the late 1940s or 1950s. The brand was actually called Leonidas-Heuer. They are of comparable quality and were fierce competitors. After Heuer bought them, they used the Leonidas nameplate for their less expensive watches in the Rolex/Tudor fashion. They said, it is a decent but under-rated brand. My guess is that the name was no longer used after TAG bought Heuer and turned the entire thing into a marketing excercise.
