My Grandfather recently gave me a gold Jules Jurgesen watch with a braided gold band. The case is very flat and it is an attractive watch in fine working order.

It is of high sentimental value and I am not interested in selling it. I am interested in understanding its value in case it might need to be insured.

Can anyone help me, understanding that this is very limited info I have shared. I haven't found a source on the web that is of much help.

Thank you.

Brian

Hi. It's really difficult to appraise without pictures and the watch in front of you.

What you could do is sign up for our price guide at http://www.vintagewatchpriceguide.com/
we should have something similar in there, otherwise I'd tell you anywhere between $225 and $400. Maybe more if the bracelet is actually gold and is particularly heavy.

Genrally watches with jewellers like Black Star & Frost are made my another company with BS&F just putting their name on it. We'd need to see a picture of the movement to figure out who made it.

Also if it's of any help, the word Swiss is stamped within the movements, I see the word adjusted,Black Starr & Frost N.Y. engraved.I also see the initials S F & these initials are located between some sort of dial with a red jewel in it .I see all sorts of stones within the movements of this watch. Can you or anyone out there tell me what exactly that means & why they are there ?

The movement is only marked Black Starr and Frost? No other manufacturer?

OK, BS&F will NOT have been the maker of the watch. The movement will have been made by somebody else and BS&F put their name on it. If it was made by a high end watch manufacturer, then it will be worth a fair amount, if not it won't.

None. You'll need a lot more information than that, starting with a picture.
