My cousin has asked me to research a metal wrist watch containing a photo of Hitler on the dial. The watch is without any further identifying marks. It was obtained by my cousin's husband while he was stationed in Germany immediately after WWII. He was told that the watch was given to the first buyers of Volkswagons as an incentive to promote sales of the new auto . I would appreciate any information concerning the watch such as: dates of production, number produced, purchasers or recipients, cost at that time and present day value, potential outlets for sale, etc. Please note: my keyboard is acting up and will not type numbers or the "at" sign. My email contains a numerical "three" after the sbac and the usual "at" sign followed by comcast.net /image |

Unfortunately, I can't place a value on such an item. It may be worth a lot to a "Hitler collector" as I'm sure that exists, but it would be pretty much worthless to most people. So it's a matter of finding the right person at the right time I guess. It is an interesting piece of history, so as such I don't think one should bury their heads in the sand about it as some people do, but as a collectible, it has no value to most people. |
