I would like to know what the value of a Elgin USN BUSHIPS canteen watch in very good running condition would be? What would the difference be if it has the 539 movement rather than the 647 movement? I have only been able to find one that has been sold and it did not have the original hands. It went for a nice price. From looking back through your messages,I found where someone said that there were only a couple thousand made. I am looking foward to hearing what you have to say. Thanks |

The 539 movement is not correct for the watch, so it is hard to place a value on it. What you're looking for are three features: 1. Hack Setting 647. 2. Glass Crystal that is lead soldered in place. 3. Back Marked "BuShips" Anything that does have the above is controversial and value suffers accordingly. Zaf |

I was told that the alot of the Canteens were refitted with the 539 for some reason. The watch has the glass crystal and the BUSHIPS dial. So really there is no idea of what it is worth I take it. |

The 539 is just not correct for it. It may have been put togther from a stash of old cases at some point, with a 539 from another watch, but it isn't all genuine to fetch the big bucks. Assuming only the movement is wrong, maybe it's worth $600. It isn't enough just to have the glass xtal, it needs to be soldered in place. That way you know you have the real deal. |
