Has anyone ever seen this type of watch? It was obviously a doctors watch at one time since it has the American Medical Assoc. symbol on it. It also has gradatus ad xv pulsus on each vertical half, the numbers begin at 35 and count up to 160 - is this beats per minute? Any idea how much this is worth or how old it is?

I have seen it before, fairly uncommon. What metal is the case made of?

It is beat to count pulse rate. Count 15 pulses, then read the pulse rate on this dial.
