Looking to gauge/assess this pieces authenticity. The movement sn indicates the correct sequence for 1947. However the case has Helvetia and Argentina stamped in it. Is this correct for the watch? I read about an connection with the Helvetia name, but not too clear on what it mean. Any help on this is appreciated

Watch looks to be recased. Helvetia, while the Latin name for Switzerland, is also a competing watch brand to Omega. Solid gold watches would have been required to be cased in Argentina during those years. However, I don't believe that a non-precious metal case was subject to the same requirements for local production. Someone simply took a genuine Omega movement and matched it to a Helvetia case that fit properly. Hope this helps, gatorcpa |
