This one sounds like an American made watch (at at least cased in the U.S.) Star Watch case co made cases for Elgin, etc. Hoffers is not a brand I recognize.

I have a rectangular watch which was given to me nearly fifty years ago by my father which I wore as a child until the movement became unreliable. The dial is very worn with large arabic numbers and is marked "Hoffrers", with subseconds at the six o'clock position. The movement is also marked "Hoffrers Watch Co." and "17 jewel" (I believe, difficult to read). The case is yellow, marked "Star Watch Case Company" and "14kt gold filled," with filigree markings around the dial and on the sides. Case is numbered "T" or "7" "268847" and has what appears to be XIX scratched inside. Case is badly worn, particularly on the back, which is worn through at the corners. Can you tell me aything about this watch?

Sorry, but I have not been able to find any significant information about Certina. All I know is that they are still in business as part of the SMH mega conglomerate that owns Blancpain, Lanco, Mido, Rado, Longines, Omega, Hamilton, Tissot, Swatch plus movements manufacturers Piguet, Renata, ETA/Valjoux. Perhaps some one else knows more. We carry Certina watches on occasion and they seem to be of decent quality and appears to be a underrated brand.

I have a "Certina", which belonged to my father; stainless steel, screwback, automatic, white crosshair dial with a stainless ring with notches for hour markers, sweep-seconds and "DS" at 6 o'clock on dial. No other markings on case. Band has "Bulova all stainless steel Hong Kong" imprinted on clasp. Can you tell me anything about this piece?

Does anyone know anything about vintage rado watches? I keep seeing Rado green horse, red horse, or saphire horse watches on ebay. Anyone know the difference? Thanks
