I recently acquired this piece (Ca287, 37+mm snap, 14k red), and am in the process of learning about it.
It's my understanding that the month feature must be moved forward manually. Can anyone confirm or correct this point?

Yes, I believe that is correct. I have one in the shop right now, I can confirm once I get it back.
