Hi all, I never knew this forum existed, if had then i would have posted a long time ago ! ! Right then, , i have a gold gents longines mechanical watch which my wife paid 800 for as a wedding gift in 1999. It was second hand as well and we were informed that 800 was half price ! ! Even though i now live in north yorkshire, i still made the trip to london every 18 months or so to have the watch serviced by the people we bought it from. Unfortunatly they retired and sold off the business 2 yrs ago and the new owners dont touch repairs or servicing anymore, , so unfortunatly the watch is well overdue for a service and as such has now stopped working I/e it wont tick away no matter how long you wind it for. I have taken the back plate off to try and find out a bit more about this watch, , how old ? ? when was it made, ? how many wee made, , what is its current value ? ? On the back plate there is some embossed numbers and some scratched/engraved. There is the name " BAUME" and below that the numbers "75033" . below this number an embossed number 9 then the numbers 375 followed by two small symbols that i cant see properly. Above the word baume, is an embossed "DS&S. On the back of the mechanism itself it says " LONGINES SWISS 17 JEWELS" and directly underneath that a rectangullar box with " 428 " engraved. The only other number is a bit difficult to read but i think its " 51150651". There doesnt seem to be any other numbers or markings anywhere visible, unless there is something else written underneath the top plates of the mechanism. ? The watch is a angled square shape, , both casing and backplate are solid or gold plated. The dial face is also gold and has a sort of distressed appearance. There are black lines for the numbers and two gold hands. The strapis a bracelet type and again, appears to be gold plated. This is an oldish watch and as such there are a few scratches and marks,, but the gold plating is still showing gold under the scratches ie/ no sign of silver or any other colour where there is signs of wear. I hav taken quite a few pics of the watch, the inside of the back plate and also th mechansism if anyone would like to see them all, , please email me at [email protected] and i will send you all the pics. I would love to know more about this watch, particulary its current value as its been some yrs and i suppose i really should have it insured. I do hope someone can help me out. I have scoured the internet and not ever come accross anything like this watch before. Even a few run of the mill watch shops have been intrigued by it. Its very, very unusal.. I personally think it has a ring of the 70s to it, , but i could be completly wrong. Please help me if you can, , would be a nice end to a shitty year to finally find out something about this beautiful dress watch. Thankyou for reading, , kevin |

Hi. Definitely 1970s. This type of watch typically will be worth the value of the gold. It's a 9k British market piece, so you'll need to weigh it. Once you find out how many grams it weighs, get the gold rate of the day and multiply by 0.375. |

Hi Zaf, Have just had a reply from longines confirming that the watch was indeed manufactured in 1971 and exported to BAUME & CO in london. They didnt give me any further information that i asked for such as how many were made, what parts were solid gold and what parts were plated, , what was its model name. They did however say that without seeing this mint condition watch in person they were unable to give me an estimate of its value, however i should be looking at a minimum of 2500 swiss francs, , which equates to roughly 1250. I would still love to know more about this watch and do hope that longines once again replies to my further email asking the above questions again. Many thanks, , kev |

I think their price quote, at least in the "collector world" is optimistic. It is not a high demand watch and 9k gold is only 37.5% gold. It's good they answered you though. Was the reply from Mr. Krebs? |
