I have a gold Longines from around the 1950s era - a 12.68Z movement. Its in pretty poor condition - the case back doesnt stay on very securely, neither does the ring for the glass, or the glass itself. One of the hands has broken off and the face is in a terrible state. My watchmaker says he can put it right "as new" for 380euros. It would be nice to bring it back to life (it at least runs very nicely)but I am forced to wonder if its actually worth doing for this price. Its not a very big watch by modern standards either - only 31mm, and is engraved on the back. Know anyone who can do a nice job for less money?I really wonder how my guy proposes to sort out these slack and buckled old gold parts. What would I actually be able to sell it for assuming he really can get it "as new"? Worth doing, or not really? Also, is there any kind of general rule concerning the value of a gold watch versus a steel case? They sure cost a lot more on a new watch! |

In 9k, in a Baume case, It's probably a $300-350 kind of thing when done! Not worth restoring. |
