My father has given me two old watches that he was going to throw out. One is a ['Rotary Super Sports' watch, which I guess dates from the 1940s. It has a chromed, brass case. On the dial it states that it is Non Magnetic and has 15 Jewels. It does not work - I'm guessing that it has been overwound. Is it worth putting any money into an old watch, to get it going ? Does such a watch have any merits ? Should I consign it to the waste bin ? I'd be delighted if any one can provide me with any information about this watch. Age, quality, merits (if any) etc. My other query concerns a watch which looks even older than the Rotary. The front of the case is chromed brass, whereas the press-on back is 'Swiss Made Stainless Steel'. The words 'Swiss Made' exist on the bottom of the dial in very small print. Other than that, I can see no makers marks anywhere. Unlike the Rotary, this watch works and seems to keep good time. Would it be a good idea for me to get the front of the case re-chromed or would it be a 'waste' of money ? Would it be a case of trying to make a 'Silk Purse out of a sow's ear ' ? I'd be delighted if any one can provide me with any information about this watch. The make, age, quality, merits (if any - well it does work) etc. I'd be very pleased to receive any information about either of these watches, Thank you very much, Andy
