My father has given me two old watches that he was going to throw out.

One is a ['Rotary Super Sports' watch, which I guess dates from the 1940s. It has a chromed, brass case. On the dial it states that it is Non Magnetic and has 15 Jewels.

It does not work - I'm guessing that it has been overwound. Is it worth putting any money into an old watch, to get it going ? Does such a watch have any merits ? Should I consign it to the waste bin ?

I'd be delighted if any one can provide me with any information about this watch. Age, quality, merits (if any) etc.

My other query concerns a watch which looks even older than the Rotary.

The front of the case is chromed brass, whereas the press-on back is 'Swiss Made Stainless Steel'. The words 'Swiss Made' exist on the bottom of the dial in very small print. Other than that, I can see no makers marks anywhere.

Unlike the Rotary, this watch works and seems to keep good time. Would it be a good idea for me to get the front of the case re-chromed or would it be a 'waste' of money ? Would it be a case of trying to make a 'Silk Purse out of a sow's ear ' ?

I'd be delighted if any one can provide me with any information about this watch. The make, age, quality, merits (if any - well it does work) etc.

I'd be very pleased to receive any information about either of these watches,

Thank you very much,

Andy

There isn't much value in either of these watches that would warrant an extensive restoration, if that is what you are asking.
