Hi there - complete novice (but already hooked ) to collecting watches hoping for a bit of help in regards a make of watch I have been unable to find information about. Basically I have been offered a rather beautiful vintage chronograph watch, from a brand called 'Genva'. I had never heard of it and Google doesnt seem to have either ! Does anyone have any information about the maker ? Were they reputable: is it a quality brand ? etc etc. Basically anything that might reassure me that what I want to do (spend a fair bit of money) on a watch brand I have absolutely no idea about isnt a stupid thing to do ! I'd be really grateful for anyones assistance ! |

Sorry, but did you spell the name correctly? The movement inside my vintage art deco "Geneva" was made by De Frece Watch Co, says "Swiss" and supposedly has 17 jewels. They aren't very common but that is not necessarily a good thing. The movement seems "fragile" and not too robust, thus many watches may have broken and been discarded over the years. It doesn't keep very good time but I have not tried to clean or adjust it. It has a beautiful "rose-colored" face however. Mostly the De Frece watches I have seen on the internet are pretty cheap - $100 to $200 asking prices, and probably aren't worth it judging by mine. Don't buy the watch if you can't open it up and look inside! |
