I have what is to me at least, a unique pendanty type Borel watch which I am unsure of it's age. I know it is older than me by a few years (so 30+ years) and that it appears to be solid gold (it has some wear on the edges that are still bright gold, not silvery or anything)

It has engraved writing on the back but it's too small to read and the camera can't pick it up though my boyfriend says a part looks like it says 10k and I thought it said something like "plaique" on it, not really sure.

It has VERY minimal scratching and wear and is in working condition (windup)

Can anyone give me some info on this watch and it's value?

Thanks

Tara,

The word "plaque" means plated. Your watch is 10 karat gold plated (not solid gold). This is consistent with other Ernest Borel models that were produced during the period.

Founded in 1859, Ernest Borel is probably best known for it's line of Cocktail Mystery Dial watches that were produced in the 1950s/60s. Over the years, Borel sold a wide variety of styles of gents and ladies watches. Most models were very moderately priced. In later years, the Borel company changed hands many times, with each successive owner taking the company farther and farther away from its glory days producing quality watches. The company is a shell of its former self, today.

From the styling of your pendant watch, I would estimate that it was produced in the 1960s or early 1970s. Another clue to the production date of your watch is the absence of the "Synchron" name on the dial. Borel watches used Synchron movements between 1975-1989 while Borel was owned by Aubry Frre SA within the CYMA-group (Synchron SA).

Value of a vintage pendant like yours would be relatively modest from a strict watch collectibles standpoint, however the unique shape might bring a slight premium from someone (a non-collector) who desired it just for it's novelty. It also looks to be in nice condition. I would probably place a price tag of $150-$200 if it were in my shop.
