Can you help me identify this watch please? When we purchased it, we were told it was a JLC chronograph from just after the war but I cannot find it on any website.
Do you know the model and would you have a rough idea of value? There is a serial number inside the back cover of 651684. It also says there are 17 jewels

This looks suspicious to me. Can you provide shots of both the inside and outside of the back? where did it come from?

Thanks.

thank you. This is the inside of the back, there is nothing on the outside. I got it from a friend of a friend who said he picked it up in Argentina.

My gut feeling is that it is that it is a fake i.e. a generic watch made out to look like a JLC. I guess anything can happen once it hits the Argentine market, but it's not a Swiss Case and the movement stampings & signatures do not follow what one would expect. I'd need to see it in person to make the call.

Thanks Zaf, that comes as a surprise. Seems an awful lot of effort to go to to make a fake. I will take it to a uk specialist and see what they make of it. Thanks again.

Anything can happen for export watches, but it isn't a Swiss made case, so there is no reason to have it stamped "LeCoultre SWISS". Ask the person looking at it if they think the dial is original, not repainted. I suspect it is repainted. Look at the "20" and "25" they are touching the 1/5 tick marks. Original dial are almost nevr sloppy like that.
