I have recently found a pocketwatch in my potato garden. yes. a real treasure. anyways, I have only wiped it with a cloth and it came out of the ground shining. my photos are poor, however, Girard is on the dial, under the dust cover, there is the following inscriptions -on the inside cover Providence, warranted 20 yrs, 1166760 - on the movement area - Girard 7 jewel, langensdorf swiss.
can you tell me how old you think this watch is, and if it is worth any money. thank you.

7 jewels and 'warranted' i.e. not solid gold, to me does not ad up to an expensive watch. So since it's been with the potato crop, I don't think there's anything there...

It sure looks like solid gold, It is etched with a beautiful flower pattern on front, and is monographed as well with a small cabin picture. It is in remarkable shape, perfect on the case, and the only trouble I see is that the hands have disintegrated. Under the dust cover seems to be a slight bit of rust from the little screws, but very cleand besides. I thought 'warranted 20 years, meant it was a good watch? I did some research on the serial number, and from I can tell it is very old, maybe 1870's? I am just stumbled on the GIRARD name. I have not found any pocketwatches with this name, however, I do know that girard perragoux watches are very expensive. Can you tell me maybe where to look to investigate the girard name?
