Lookie here. Rolexes going for under $500. I'm not sure, but I think we are looking at another one man crime wave on Ebay.

Here's a pic of a Rolex Tudor movement in another auction. Is it me or is there a wave of questionable auction out there at the moment. This movement looks like a sheet metal job to me.
The word Tudor on the movement looks like it was buzzed on with an engraver tool. :-)

The Tudor movement is quite real. So are all the other watches I've looked at that the seller is offering. Nice witchhunt, Hex!

Zaf- I real cheap Rolex movement. How ironic.

Greg- No need to thank me. Go right ahead and scarf up those warez at such a low price so you can resell them with your over described fluff presentations. I'm sure you already did with your multi business alias accounts. Enjoy. :-)

Hex, take this as your first warning.
I never thought to say this here, but the way *YOU* act is not acceptable.
How about studying watches in privat silence and
just comment on things when you have enough experience to do?
Your cooperation is much appreciated.

Hex: It is NOT a Rolex movement. Tudors do not use Rolex movements. Even the Rolex 390 found in some Tudors is not a Rolex in-house movement.

So maybe time to live and let live.

Okay Zaf, the Rolex case threw me off and I thought Tudor was like an off brand Rolex. As my thread title says "could be" as in a question not a statement. I didn't think it would go this far either. It's good to have someone level headed to clear up the air. Thanks.

I would advise anyone to "proceed with caution" when purchasing vintage watches from Ebay. I recently bought a 1940's Gruen Wht Gold Curvex from someone with a great rating. I took it to a jeweler because the seconds hand came off during shipment and found that it was a patchwork of parts from other watches..drastically diminshing its value.

You definitely need to know what you are doing. At least go with someone that has a return policy.

This advice applies when buying vintage watches from *anywhere*, not just eBay. Every markeplace has its share of watches that are fake or pieced-together from parts. You'll find bogus items at NAWCC watch shows, major auction house auctions and even brick & mortar vintage watch dealers. Sometimes the seller knows about the problems... sometimes they don't. Caveat Emptor.

I read earlier, "buy the seller". If you buy a genuine Swiss watch, preowned, it is possible it has parts made in china, not original swiss watch parts,
the only time that might be discovered is during an overhaul, or if you notice time keeping problems.
With some sellers, even they may not be aware of bogus parts in the watch. Thats why, in my opinion, I would be very careful about who I buy a watch from.
