I was watching an auction on eBay and wanted to pick this watch up to study the inside. It seemed cheap and the case is in lousy condition. I doubted it was real. In the last couple of hours the price really jumped - does anyone know if this is even a real JLC, and if so what model it is ?

Yes, it is real, but as you noticed a sort of lousy chrome plated case, movement is probably a caliber 463.

Thanks Zaf. It does look rather like it has been at the bottom of a river !

I don't know what a caliber 463 is - could someone point me towards a description ?

I'm looking for a cheap movement that I can learn with and wouldn't want to mess with anything that has value... any suggestions or recommendations appreciated.

If you want to learn, I'd suggest vintage Hamilton. They're easier to work with, the parts are available and it won't cost you an arm and a leg to buy it. There are pratcially NO vintage JLC parts available anymore and you could be buying an expensive paper weight.

Thank you for your help, Zaf.

I'll keep my eyes open and see what I can find.

I believe it is real. Is it slightly oval? If so there was such a watch, probably from the mid 1980s.

Hi All

Similar question to the others on here, my grandad left me this watch movement in his will, i know nothing about it?... can anybody identify it?? Also, if i wanted to restore it ie source a new case, crystal and strap how would i go about this??

I have measured it and it seems to be 33.58mm in diamater (without the winder) and the number 132665 is imprinted on the movement itself(back)

The caliber number is usually found under the balance.
To make a complete watch with this mvmt will be more of a collectors challange. An option could be to get a case tailor-made somewhere.
Actually, beside the sentimental value, it is surely like throwing money out of the window.

Ilja

PS: Zaf buys spare movements to source parts for repair.
